As I come to the end of eight years’ service on the WICC Board, two feelings are uppermost: Sadness, as I will no longer be a part of this amazing board, having to say goodbye to friends, and, more importantly, gratitude for the incredible experiences and opportunities that I have had. I knew how rewarding it was to work with women of faith and vision during my years in CWL, but WICC added another dimension: working ecumenically with women from different denominations within our Christian faith. Working together, we learn to recognize and receive the gifts that each of us brings from our traditions and to respect the differences. Since WICC is a national organization, one’s perspectives are expanded by seeing and learning from the experiences of those in other regions of our great country. Through service on the WDP committee and as Canadian liaison to the International WDP, as well as briefly on FLC, I was enriched by seeing women of faith and action living out our common Gospel call in very different circumstances. I enjoyed opportunities to write, to participate in videos and prayer, and to share meals, sing, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company during our face-to-face meetings. In all our work, WICC, and especially the Board, is inspired, supported, and encouraged by a creative, incredibly competent, flexible Executive Director and staff.
Finally, to anyone who may have a chance to join the WICC board, jump at the opportunity; you will not regret it! And WICC is always available through its website, social media, and WDP gatherings across the country, so in that sense it will be au revoir, not goodbye, for me. Thanks be to God for the blessings WICC brings.
