Getting to know our new WICC Board member – Euphemia Ayafor

I am Euphemia Ayafor, bilingual WICC board elected member and member of the Roman Catholic Church. I Joined the Board in September of 2025.

I came to Canada over fifteen years ago and live in the Greater Montreal area. My first participation in the World Day of Prayer was when it was written by the Christians of Zimbabwe. After that, COVID hit and activities were halted. When it was okay to gather again, I helped organized the World Day of Prayer service in my Parish that was written by the Christian women of Palestine.

I have been a member of the Catholic Women’s League of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Chateauguay for over five years and I have served as chairperson in Community and Family Life, Faith and currently as President. I am equally very involved in the music ministry, Parish Council and Liturgical committee of my Parish.

I met Janet MacFadyen, Communications Specialist for WICC, during the CWL National Convention in August 2025. I listened to her talk about WICC and I was very much interested. After the presentation, I went to meet her because I wanted to know more and then came this opportunity to be part of the Board. What better way to know than to be involved!

I had great conversations with some WICC members before I was elected and I loved their passion, commitment and desire to create a safe space where all are welcomed regardless of denomination because we, as human beings, are first and foremost created in the image of God.

Outside of WICC, I currently work in Food Quality assurance. I love that it gives me the opportunity to ensure that Canadians have good and safe food.

This Song by David Haas inspires me a lot and reminds me of how everything around us humans, trees, weather etc fit perfectly into this amazing puzzle created by God. It reminds me that no piece is useless and every piece contributes to the completeness and beauty of the final product.

This day God gives me strength of high heaven

Sun and moon shining, flame in my hearth

Flashing of lightning, wind in its swiftness

Deeps of the ocean, firmness of earth.

This day God sends me Strength as my guardian

Might to uphold me, Wisdom as guide.

Your eyes are watchful, Your ears are listening

Your lips are speaking, Friend at my side.

God’s way is my way, God’s shield is round me

God’s host defends me, saving from ill.

Angels of heaven drive from me always

All that would harm me, stand by me still.

Rising I thank You, Mighty and Strong One

King of Creation, Giver of Rest.

Firmly confessing God in three persons,

Oneness of Godhead, Trinity blest.
