I am Peggy Malcolm, appointed to the WICC Board from the Women’s Missionary Society of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.
I grew up in a church family, with my grandfather, father and oldest brother serving as Presbyterian ministers. My dad was also the General Secretary of the (then) Board of World Mission of the PCC, and so my younger days were filled with visitors from Canada and around the world. Our focus was always on the wider church and ecumenical events.
My home has ranged from Taiwan to Canada, in Hamilton, Cobourg and Pickering. As a student, I attended Laurier University in Waterloo and Western in London. Then I spent 2.5 years with CUSO in Indonesia working with a UN agency, followed by 35 years working with the Ontario Library Service.
I am active in my local Ottawa-area church and have helped to organize a community World Day of Prayer service for many years. The service is special to me as a chance to learn about another country and the concerns of the country’s women. As the Board chair for a local women’s shelter, I know how challenging life is for some women.
Earlier this year, I was invited to participate in the national WMS Council and was given the opportunity to participate as the WMS representative in WICC. I am very excited to share my experiences and “light” as part of the WICC Board. My favourite hymn goes back years.. “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine…”
